build upgrade worked well, though with few observable differences.
it is a shame i have been unable to write recently, as tediousness has ceded to an unbroken string of events worthy of the telling. since I came home I have conducted secret raids on doomed libraries to salvage a handful, at least; purchased a car unseen, a mighty vessel capable of the tundra; given away much and moved more, hundreds of kilos of things, incorporating years of my life and all my possessions in the scant space of one room, back here in norway; located after years of despair a soft copy of my old journal, the maelstrom hypothesis; hooked up with old friends, scavenged through ten years of gifts and letters and adventurous mementos of a life surprisingly well spent, so far, stuffed away in old drawers - one of three locks of women's hair I have asked for or stolen in my life - an unsuspected picture of that spider! the beast that shared a terrace with me for a month in paraguay - a tentative letter from, and a diary entry about a girl long ago, that nothing ever happened with - a shrunken head, a bug in a jar, a picture of another girl, lovely but since fallen out with... shrapnel and paraphernalia discarded by the wayside, now come back. less to haunt than to greet merrily.
...and finally, finally I have now remembered how to put names on paper and invoke the norwegian mail system - I haven't sent a letter since 1997! but now there are three parcels at least primed and ready for shipment, sitting in my living room. perhaps my future biographers will thank me for leaving a trail, like malinowski.
on a whim i check in, and it works - ooh! be intrepid in your journeyings and show compassion to all reindeer, mmmkay, even if your are going to be watching people [and participating in?] killing them.
was the maelstrom hypothesis the OD one that i got to know you off [title sounds a bit familiar], or the sigil-&-wax-encrusted grimoire you wrote when younger?

yep, it's the old OD journal. not that there is that much worthy of saving, but I thought it a loss to have lost it, even if only as an appreciable memento of my foolish youth. ;-)
my wax-encrusted grimoires remain safe and dandy and utterly illegible, to me or anyone else. safely entrusted to their own brand of obscurity, on a top shelf in my room back home.

This site is a lot of fun very well designed.
