return

back in norway from an enjoyable if strangely exhausting sojourn in greece. the whole island is poised just on the brink of my favourite 'season', the brief spell in september when a bright summer sun still hangs in the sky but the air is chilled with autumn.

having never seen a snake in this particular corner of the world, I have now seen two since I got back. one black and swiftly slithering; the other small, torpid and beige. omens for sure, though a swift perusal of the ophiomantic literature leaves me none the wiser.

stopover

Friday 01 September 2006 at 2:50 pm
arrived in norway yesterday, bundled with overcharged luggage - 118kg divided between me and a friend -  and already en route to athens for a week, where a friend is getting a little surprisingly but pleasantly married.

the trainride to gardermoen passed through gentle and verdant countryside, reading taussig's work on defacement with some brilliant cubanate on my headphones and generally ignoring the worn and besuited middleagers and the stream of substitutable blonde teenagers squeezing out of their tight clothes. in a mood not to conquer the world that passed crisp outside the windows, but to tickle it like a kitten teased with a ball of yarn.

noted the lovely phrasing of the signs outside the airport. please help us keep gardermoen a nice and pleasant [trivelig og hyggelig] place by looking after your possessions. scandinavian cute - paranoia in a puppy costume.
